Animania Sydney 2009 Roundup Video

September 22nd, 2009

Our friend Jack from Jakd did a great video compilation of what happened down under at Sydney Animania 2009 (Technology Park). Vox pops, cosplay, what’s happening around the show and general funny banter. Look out for that kid who whacks the microphone!

We always get him on board since it’s hard for us to enjoy the show for ourselves and generally speaking, he does a great job at it. Enjoy!

This year’s SFF program has just been released! Do you have your highlighter’s out? I’m going through the asian films first, mainly because SBS hasn’t screened Police Story in years and I’ve got a hankering for Hong Kong 80s cinema, and the closest fix I have is this. You know, asian films = Jackie Chan.

Anime Feature: The Sky Crawlers

Looks like a lot of eye candy, but nothing else more. If you’re into visual effects and stuff, go nuts man.

Japanese Feature: Still Walking

Still Walking simultaneously reveals a family treading water while paying quiet testimony to their durability in the face of loss. Sounds interesting.

John Woo Feature: Red Cliff

Because John Woo has a genre named after him.

One thing I hate about this film:

DOESNT THIS ANNOY YOU??

DOESNT THIS ANNOY YOU??

Korean Feature: Treeless Mountain

I cried watching this trailer while eating a meat platter and drinking beer.

Taiwanese/ French Feature: Face (Visages)

The picture can probably explain more then I ever will. SFF has classified it as a fantasy.

2008-09: Our First Year

May 3rd, 2009

Completely forgot to celebrate Pinin’s first birthday!

One year on, and these photos sum up why we do what we do (at least why I do this).

Matt got KOed on our first trip down to Melbourne.

We tried starting a Japanese record label subsidiary. And I still maintain that it was a great idea.

Daimono: If the company were to collapse, this would be how we would end it. But better.

The girls did an exhaustingly excellent job at Supanova SYD2008! Unfortunately, it knocked out 2 of them from Sunday.

One of our favourite customers from Brisbane made the trip down to Sydney for SMASH 2008.

Animania Sydney

Love Melbourne!

One of our media friends did this amazing round-up video for Animania!

Moyashimon will make you instantly attractive to hot chobits cosplayers.

One of my personal favourites. At the Lumiere.

The people we meet, the fun we share, the challenges, the laughters, the heartbreaks and of course the love.

To everyone we’ve crossed in our paths, the ones who’ve saved our backsides, who’ve supported us, everyone; thank you!

Supanova Melbourne 2009

Hope everyone’s having an excellent easter break! Just sharing some photos one of our staff,  Irene, took at Melbourne Supanova:

In the past month, Sydney has been the venue for some very cool events of the arty, crafty kind. Here’s my top pick of the lot:

‘Lomography: The Future is Analogue’ exhibition (30 October-November 18)
Held at the Blender Gallery on Elizabeth Street in Paddington. This exhibition showcased photographs taken by local artists with analogue Lomo cameras (examples include: the LC+A, the Fisheye, the Holga and the Diana), demonstrating the many vintage-looking or quirky effects you can get with experimenting with 35mm film and its development.

Yinka Shonibare (24 September 2008-1 February 2009)
Held at the Museum of Contemporary Art near Circular Quay. The textiles, installation and photography work of British-born Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare. It’s a very colourful insight into post-colonialism and a clever insight into the crossing, juxtaposition and meeting of cultures.

COFA Annual 2008 exhibition (27 November-30 November)

Held at the College of Fine Arts (COFA) in Paddington. What I like to call COFA’s version of UNSW’s Oktoberfest. Think a very mellowed out party with less drinking and more mingling of the non-hyper kind. Features some of the graduate works of 2008 from all COFA disciplines and if you were lucky enough to attend the opening, you could buy a copy of the exhibition catalogue for $5.00!

The Finders Keepers Market (6 December-7 December)
Held at the Carriageworks in Eveleigh. Formerly known as the Hope Street Markets. Another indepedent art/design market which is held once every three months (or something like that). It’s probably my favourite out of all the art/design markets (aside from the COFA Spring Fair) because there’s stuff I actually like and could afford. Most of the stuff featured has a very kitsch, childish feel to it- similar to the illustrations you’d find in Frankie magazine.
