The arty soul gets exhibited XD
November 5th, 2008
Hi guys! This is Austvina here! I’ve been out of the loop for a while now thanks to uni and all, but here’s the result of one of the assessments I did recently for Textiles…

I got exhibited!! Here’s me with my two lovely models for the garments at the exhibition opening which was held yesterday at the COFAspace Gallery at the College of Fine Arts on Greens Road, just off Oxford Street in Paddington!

That’s all from me for now!
Adventures of an arty soul…#01
May 21st, 2008
Greetings, fellow Pinin-ites…I feel strangely honoured to have access to the hallowed cyber-halls of the Pinin blog.
This humble new blogger is known as Austvina, or Aust for short. Every so often, I’ll be blogging about all things involving art, fashion, music and popular culture in the Sydney scene. And other places too if I find interesting things to write about.
In this post, I’ll be reviewing the clothing brand Saint Augustine Academy, of which I got to see a small fashion show of at the World Bar about a week ago. Which was good, because I missed out on the ‘official’ one which was at Oxford Art Factory.
SAINT AUGUSTINE ACADEMY FASHION SHOW @WORLD BAR

Saint Augustine Academy is an up-and-coming Sydney label which so far does mens’ clothing. Not that I personally mind because I love wearing mens’ clothes ^__^ Anyway, the brand gets its inspiration from a variety of musical genre fashions such as: British invasion bands of the 60’s, the New Wave/New Romantic movements of the 80’s, and some contemporary artists such as Kings of Leon, VHS or Beta and Interpol and its philosophy (taken from their official site) is essentially “Rawk”.
And it’s not hard to see why. Looking at the clothes during the show, I could see that they could have been specially made for your typical indie-kid. Think an array of tailored shirts, vests, jackets, tuxedos (gosh!) and skinny ties. And of course, how can I forget the quintessential skinny black jeans, paired with shiny patent leather brogues, which were worn by the small army of tall, lithe and somewhat androgynous guys with tousled birds’ nest hair. On that note, birds’ nest hair seems to be quite common amongst the fashion shows of the more local labels…
Personally, I enjoyed watching the show, not just because some of the guys were kinda cute, but mostly because some of the clothes were things that I would definitely wear. (NOTE: Yes I am an advocate of raiding your boyfriend’s closet to find fashionable pieces and am known amongst my circle of friends to be notorious for occasionally shopping in the mens’ section…)
I guess though since the brand is stocked in places like Incu and Capital L, which might be out of range for the average young, strapping indie male, you could always just team some tailored shirts from chain stores with a tie and skinny jeans from say, General Pants Co to create your own cheaper version of the look.
In any case, mens’ dressing and tailoring are sooooooo in. Girls, raid your boyfriends’ closets I say!
